Airport News & Information

News and Information:

4/2010

Carroll County and the local residents do not see eye-to-eye when it comes to the Regional Airport just north of Westminster, Maryland.

The State of Maryland and Carroll County have spent money for the planning of an extended wider runway; following several intermediate projects which lead up to the 20-year plan. First came the modernize refueling station, then the large corporate hangars, more visible and tighter security, the re-surfacing of the taxiways and Tarmac; finally when corporate customers started to arrive the long-standing FBO goes out of business, first bought then resold to he current owners.

Everything seems better and then the economy takes a nose-drive. The cost of operations goes up, revenue down, private aircraft owners can't afford the fuel to fly, corporate owners leave out of frustration. Now what?

After the entire airport goes through all these positive changes and the appearance improves dramatically, now major opposition from the residents bordering the airport. And there is where it stands, with so much momentum lost will there ever be happiness in the farmer's field - where it all began a century ago.
